"What it Means to be Human"
A poem by Meghanne Storey It's what it means to be human The struggles in your mind Those frustrations that you find Yes…they give this life--specific meaning They help create a place A quiet, simple space Where one can simply gaze …deep into the past And kick their own ass For all those dumb mistakes they made That live for moments in memories they saved. It’s what it means to be human When that fire starts burning deep in your chest And the butterflies leave their imaginary nests Beating their wings deep in your core Causing you to always want more And next that moment comes And you feel like you've found the one The fireworks from up above Then there’s heart break Your stomach starts to ache Time stands still; never moving, nothing is real And you know… This is what it means to be human The spinning around The falling to the ground And all the laughter That never fears what’s coming after Until you fall on the cement Where time and space stop and lament This is what it means to be human… The questions and the answers The curiosity that dances Through our heads when we are young… The beauty of the world; and the ugliness of blood All the highs and all the lows When it all hurts and when you glow This is what it means to be human.
